Virus inflamed sinus, as a result of which mucus builds up and trapped in sinuses. if sinus is because of viral infection or which can often be develop from a common cold then it is a contagious sinus infection and transmitted to other individuals.
But if the fungal and bacterial infections, allergies or nasal polyps are responsible for sinus infection then it is not contagious, these type of infections are rare. when an prevailing sinusitis starts bacteria to grow, then bacterial sinusitis occurs or when an upper respiratory virus inflamed sinus which is then filled with mucus, if mucus remains and not cleared after a period of 10-15 days it infect sinus with bacteria. Bacterial sinusitis may go away by its own or sometimes antibiotics are required. However, sinusitis is not always contagious, until or unless the symptoms are similar to those contagious respiratory infections.
